As school leaders ourselves, we have lived education reform for nearly thirty years – in a variety of settings and on multiple continents. We understand the complexities around implementation and have experience making changes that last.
From this work, clear insights have emerged. The frameworks below capture these ideas in practice.
Systems Need to Be Aligned
The classroom sits within a school, within a cluster, within a network, within a broader system. Each layer shapes what is possible. When those layers are aligned, enduring change is possible.
People Need Time to Develop
Educational change is about changing behavior. That takes time and follows a predictable path, from knowing and wanting, to practicing, to transferring and adapting. Investing in people throughout that process makes change last.
Change Initiatives Need Depth and Breadth
Going deep means understanding what really works. Going broad means spreading those ideas throughout the system. Over time, the two feed each other. What is learned in depth is what is shared broadly and what is learned broadly helps inform future depth efforts.
